How to turn off X auto translate
To turn off X's auto translate: tap the gear icon next to 'Translated by Grok' on any translated post, then toggle off auto-translation for that language. There is no global off switch — you repeat this for every single language. And if your real problem is that the translations are bad, not that they exist: Yaply replaces them with translations that keep tone, slang and irony.
There is no global off switch
X rolled out Grok auto-translation in April 2026, and the off switch is buried. On a translated post, tap 'Translated by Grok', then the gear icon, then toggle off auto-translate for that language. That's it — for that one language. Spanish posts still get translated until you repeat the dance on a Spanish post. There is no 'turn it all off' button, on mobile or on web. Bad translation is not the same as no translation
Run the test that matters: take ten real tweets — slang, irony, emojis — through both engines. Grok turns 'this ships or I riot' into a literal threat. It reads 'great, another outage 🙃' as a compliment. It translates words. Yaply translates people: the sarcasm stays sarcastic, the slang stays slang, the emojis keep their job. Same tweet, same language pair — one version sounds like a user manual, the other sounds like the person who actually wrote it. Most people who want to disable auto-translate don't hate translation. Common questions
Can I turn off X auto translate for all languages at once?
No. X only offers a per-language toggle, reached through the gear icon on a translated post. You disable each language separately, and new languages arrive translated by default.
Why do Grok's translations sound so robotic?
Because it translates literally. Slang gets flattened, irony gets read straight, emojis get ignored. The words are technically right; the person is gone.
Does X translate my replies or my DMs?
