How to Translate DMs on X (Twitter)
X does not translate DMs. Its built-in translation covers posts only, never DMs — and there is no setting to change that. To translate a DM conversation, you need a browser extension like Yaply: it translates the whole thread live, so you read in your language and reply in theirs.
X's built-in translate covers posts only
Open a post in a foreign language and X shows a translate button. Open a DM and that button is gone. X's built-in translation covers posts only, never DMs — X's own help pages confirm it applies to posts in your timeline, nothing else. The one native workaround is clunky: long-press a message and tap 'Ask Grok' to translate it. One message at a time. Nothing for the reply you need to write back. For a real conversation, that's not translation. That's friction.
Yaply translates the whole DM thread, live
Yaply is a Chrome extension that works inside x.com. Open a DM and the entire thread appears in your language, live — no copy-paste, no switching tabs. Then the part X will never do: you type your reply in your own words, click once, and Yaply writes it in the other person's language. Native-sounding, tone kept, slang and emojis included. They read a normal message. You read a normal conversation. Both ways, every message.
DMs are where X accounts grow
Deals, collabs, and clients don't happen in public replies — they happen in DMs. Every conversation you skip because of language is a contact you lose. With translated DMs, you message that Japanese founder, answer that Brazilian client, pitch that German creator. More conversations means more reach, more followers, and a network that compounds. Language stops being the barrier between you and the people who can move your account forward.

Common questions
Can X translate DMs by itself?
No. X's built-in translate covers posts only, never DMs. The only native workaround is long-pressing a single message and tapping 'Ask Grok' — one message at a time, and it can't write your reply.
Will the other person see I'm using a translator?
No. They receive a normal message in their language, with your tone, slang, and emojis kept. Nothing reads machine-made.
Does Yaply work on mobile or other browsers?
Not yet. Yaply is a Chrome extension, so it works on x.com in Chrome on desktop. It requires a paid plan at 6.99€/mo.
